I own several 8 oz and 16 oz vintage Ball jars—the blue ones still available on their website—and I thought these lids would be a charming alternative to the usual screw-on type. However, I have a few issues with them.
1) As another reviewer mentioned, they look quite “goofy” when placed on a Ball jar, making my shorter jars resemble giraffes.
2) While I could overlook the appearance if they were functional, I was really hoping to stack them. Unfortunately, they don’t stack well at all. They can sit on top of each other, but if you enjoy having glass jars bouncing around or if you fancy yourself a juggler, this might be for you. The bottom of each jar doesn’t fit securely into the lid’s indent; instead, they just slide around freely.
Initially, I thought there might be a defect, but upon checking the packaging, I saw it states “most Ball jars,” not all. It would have been helpful if Ball had provided a list of compatible jars for these lids.
Now, I’m left uncertain whether the issue is specific to my vintage series or if these lids universally slide on all Ball jar products. I really don’t want to buy more Ball products just to figure out compatibility. This experience has really dampened my enthusiasm for Ball jars, and I think I might be better off exploring other brands that pay closer attention to these details.

While they weren’t completely airtight, they were pretty close. I’d repurchase them for the convenience. The top is wooden and the bottom is rubber, indicating good quality. I wouldn’t suggest putting them in the dishwasher, and it’s best not to lift the jars by the lids.

I’ve come across some surprising reviews, so I wanted to clarify a few points. First complaint: the lids come in different colors. Keep in mind that they are made from natural wood, and the grain varies, showcasing both dark and light highlights. Second complaint: they leak. Seriously? Are people storing them upside-down or shaking the jars? These are press-on lids. They effectively protect the contents, but don’t expect them to seal like canning lids.
These lids are beautiful, and I use them frequently in my pantry. I’ve also given many as gifts. I’m purchasing more for a wedding gift for a couple who has canning jars on their wishlist. I hope they enjoy them as much as I do. I highly recommend these lids.
